LIBRARY
Glen Onwin: as
above so below [book]
Leeds: Henry
Moore Sculpture Trust, 1991
There are three
reasons why I'm drawn to this book. 1. I like the
cover; its colour and texture, in the way that I like Allington's
book (23 July) and Newling's
(13 August). Perhaps a book can be
judged by its cover. 2. I'm interested in the content: science
and
art, alchemy and philosophy. The title is drawn from a phrase
commonly used in alchemy. The photographs are beautiful and the
essays give me a taste of the place (Square Chapel, Halifax) and
the
materials of Glen Onwin's installation there (brick, brine, wax,
salt). 3. I regret not having seen the installation which was
made in 1991 when the Square Chapel was in a period of neglect.
Happily, it is now being used as an arts centre and chamber music
is
often performed there.
