Henry Moore:
from bones and stones to sketches and sculptures / by Jane Mylum
Gardner [book]
New York: Four
Winds Press, 1993
It's a hundred
years today since Henry Moore was born. You might
have seen the BBC TV programmes recently, celebrating the
centenary
of his birth. I thought I'd show you a book about Moore that is
written for children. It's one of the few books for children in
our
library, but those that we have are great. It seems that children
are fully capable of appreciating three-dimensional forms and it
is
sad that so many adults lose this basic instinct. The author of
this
book was inspired by a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park,
where
she saw a group of schoolchildren from Barnsley studying Moore's
sculptures - learning to look, and to look again, in order to
gain
an understanding of them. The photograph of the 'hardworking
Englishman' cycling to his studio was taken by John Hedgecoe.
