Christo &
Jeanne-Claude: wrapped Reichstag, Berlin, 1971-1995 [video
recording]
Recorded by John
Vincent, 1995
Christo
began work on the Wrapped Reichstag project around the time
that he was completing the Valley Curtain (see 28 May). After
more
than twenty years of lobbying and nearly five years after the
fall of
the Berlin wall, permission was granted by the German parliament
for
their parlimentary building to be wrapped in silver fabric for
two
weeks, and exactly three years ago an MA Sculpture Studies
student
from Leeds went to Berlin to see it. He took a camcorder and made
this video which captures the party atmosphere that surrounded
the
Wrapped Reichstag day and night. He also took lots of
photographs.
Christo deals with the impermanence of his work by using these
same
methods of to extend their life beyond their brief lifespan,
producing videos, books and postcards.
