Model of the Henry Moore Institute by Gary Kugele, c. 1989
paper, moss, plastic
h 14.5, w 59, d 65 cm by courtesy of Gary Kugele
The visitors' book was used when the Henry Moore Studios opened to
the public. The maquette of the Institute was made to show what a
revamped 19th century wool merchant's office would look like when
turned into an art gallery and study centre. The model was not
developed to be seen by the public but has proven to be still useful
today, many architecture and design students are interested
in the design of the building. The model currently even lives in the
archives room in the Institute, with all the sculptors' papers. This
is a fairly unusual situation. Unusual because the model is part of
the Institution's own archive and would therefore be expected to be
kept with the Institute's papers.
