When the Henry Moore Sculpture Trust moved its offices from Leeds
City Art Gallery to the new Henry Moore Institute in February 1993
no-one at hand knew what this book was. I saved it from being thrown
away and it has been in my desk drawer ever since. It is a visitors'
book signed by only four people - Prince Charles, Richard Long, John
Cage and David Sylvester. Charles signed it on 24th October 1989
which means that it must have been at the official opening of the
Studio at Dean Clough, Halifax, and it was still there a month
later, when Cage signed it. I previously worked in a music library
so the fact that Cage - someone I admire greatly - had been in these
parts, and seen the work of the Sculpture Trust, was an auspicious
sign to me.
