`Time a generation hence' is the title of the cartoon. Yesterday's
rude book talked about time and the new generation and our
generation. The cartoon is very similar in this and it shows that
"yesterday's tomorrow is not today" to quote from the rude book
Epstein made two commemorative tomb stones. One early in his career,
`The Oscar Wilde' (1909-12) and some time later the memorial to W.H.
Hudson, both were controversial. The latter was daubed with green
paint and the first was altered before it was unvei d. A fig leaf was
added to the piece, without the knowledge of the artist, and later it
was vandalised- the offence causing parts were removed. Although the
cartoon is not dated it is likely that it was made during the Hudson
controversy.
