James Lee Byars:

Today's exhibit was
published to accompany a retrospective
exhibition of publications by James Lee Byars. The exhibition
also
included marble book sculptures and an installation about the
book.
It was organised by the artists' book collection of the Neues
Museum
Weserberg in Bremen, in collaboration with the Archive for Small
Press & Communication, Antwerp. Byars' work had not been
documented in any archive and so it was very difficult for them
to
find material for the exhibition. Not surprising considering how
difficult the material is to care for. Today's exhibit shows some
typical items - some of them very small and most of them
delicate.
But appropriate considering Byars' fascination with mortality and
his
own death. He died over a year ago.
