"Au nom du
Roy". If you want to travel you need a passport or a
visa. On William Calder Marshall's (1813-1894) one a description
is
given of him. It states his length and age but also things like
shape of his face, forehead, and nose, type of eyebrows, colour
of
his hair, and colour of his skin. The description of the sculptor
makes it possible to picture him in colour. It is quite fun to
think
that at the time the visa was issued there were no colour
photographs, of course, sometimes photographs were hand coloured
and
paintings were made but this could be the only surviving record
of
his personal `colour scheme'.
