SCULPTURE

Barbara Hepworth (1903-1975)

Conicoid, 1939, teak wood

h 20.4 cm

Hepworth's Conicoid is a sculpture that is made from teak wood, a wood that, until recently, was widely used for furniture production. It is now considered an unsustainable resource. We have another sculpture of wood by Hepworth in the collection made from scented guarea wood. The smell of the wood provides an additional sensory quality to the work.
