SCULPTURE

Harry Phillips (1911-1976)

Woman with a chair, c.1976, wax

h 13.5 cm

It is the sense of balance created by the awkward stance of the female figure and the chair, together with the delicacy of the wax from which the piece was modelled that I find most interesting. Chair legs and body parts merge into one form. Harry Phillips was a tutor at Leeds College of Art.
