SCULPTURE

Henry Moore (1898-1986)

Pendant, 1923 enamel on copper

diameter 5.8 cm Bequeathed by Jocelyn Horner to the Leeds Art Collections Fund in memory of Sir Ernest Musgrave, 1973

Visitors to the collection are often surprised to find works by Henry Moore in the collection that seem unrelated to his later stylistic developments. This pendant was produced when Moore was a student at the Royal College of Art (between 1921 and 1923). Other unusual early works by Moore in the collection include an enamelled plate (1919-20), Seated Nude Man and a plaster relief entitled Dancing Figure of the same date.
